Manitoba Skilled Worker Overseas: Who can be your Manitoba Supporter?
A Manitoba Supporter must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident and must have lived continuously in Manitoba for at least one year. They also need to demonstrate close ties to you and the province and show how they can support your settlement and employment plan. If they supported other applications before, Manitoba asks for evidence that those applicants successfully established themselves in the province on a lasting basis.
Document the relationship from both sides
Manitoba includes siblings, nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, first cousins, parents and grandparents as close relatives. The relationship can be to you or your spouse. Both you and the supporter need evidence of a close family relationship. If the supporter is your spouse’s sister, for example, start with your marriage record and the civil records that connect the two sisters. Check the current document instructions and resolve differences in names or dates before submitting.
Ask about everyone in the supporter’s household
A close relative may support more than one skilled worker at a time if they can show they have the capacity. For friends or distant relatives, the restriction applies to the household. The household must not already be supporting the settlement of another Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program applicant, provincial nominee or person under another Canadian immigration program.
Connect the documents to a practical settlement plan
Gather evidence of the supporter’s Canadian status and residence in Manitoba. The province lists a Manitoba health card copy as one example of residence evidence. Follow the current instructions for Settlement Plan Part 2 and describe where you intend to settle, how you plan to look for work and what help your supporter can offer. The supporter should notify the program if their address or contact details change.
