Requirements, documents and costs

Start with your passport, not where you live

Working Holiday 417 and Work and Holiday 462 are different temporary visa categories. Passport citizenship determines the available route. Living in Hong Kong or speaking a particular language does not itself qualify you.

Hong Kong, Taiwan and BNO applicants

The first 417 route includes eligible Hong Kong SAR and Taiwan passports, with an age range of 18–30. The UK entry, including BNO passport holders, has an age range of 18–35. Check the passport entry and application deadline carefully.

Mainland Chinese passport applicants

The first 462 route has additional requirements, including education and English. China, India and Vietnam use a pre-application ballot. Registration or selection is not a visa grant; only eligible selected applicants can progress within their invitation period.

Evidence and practical requirements

Review identity and passport validity, age, visa history, available travel funds, health and character. The first application generally needs to be made outside Australia. Dependent children cannot accompany you under this visa.

Check the ballot and caps before paying

For the 2026–27 first-462 ballot, the published registration window was 4–25 June 2026. That window has closed. The selection period is separate. Do not treat an advertised service as a currently open registration or a guaranteed place. Check the official ballot and country-cap pages for the next relevant stage.

Work, study and a later visa

A first visa generally permits a stay of up to 12 months. Work is intended to support the holiday and study is limited. Review employer, study and visa conditions before accepting a role. Second and third visas have separate requirements; specified work rules and passport exceptions need an individual check.

Application process and our services

Prepare in the right order

1. Confirm the passport category and age. 2. Check ballot or quota rules if relevant. 3. Review education, English, funds and visa history. 4. Prepare supporting evidence. 5. Apply only when eligible and permitted to proceed.

Budget for the trip as well as the visa

Separate government charges, any ballot registration charge, English tests, health checks, translation, insurance, travel and initial accommodation from professional service fees. Keep a reserve for job hunting rather than assuming immediate employment.

PremierVisa services

We help identify the category, check the evidence and timing, explain visa conditions and assist with agreed application work. We do not guarantee ballot selection, a job, employer sponsorship or a later permanent visa.

Common questions

Can my family join on the same working holiday application?

This is not a family migration route. Review each person’s visa options separately.

Is Working Holiday permanent immigration?

No. Any later employer-sponsored or skilled visa is a separate application with its own criteria.
