Manitoba Skilled Worker Overseas: How to prove a connection through past work or study

2 min read

If you previously lived in Manitoba as a temporary foreign worker or international student, qualifying work or completed study can establish a connection for Skilled Worker Overseas (SWO). Start by identifying the period and the evidence that matches the type of connection you intend to claim.

For past work, check one continuous period of full-time employment

Manitoba requires at least six consecutive months of full-time work for a Manitoba employer. The province asks for a signed employer reference on company letterhead and a copy of your Manitoba work permit. Compare the employer and dates across those records. If you changed employers, stopped working or moved to part-time work, list each period separately and check which period meets the requirement. Pay records can help you check dates.

For past study, confirm you completed an eligible program

You must have completed an authorized education or training program at a public or registered private vocational post-secondary institution in Manitoba. Language studies do not qualify. Gather your study permit, transcripts and the certificate, diploma or degree you earned. If you transferred institutions or changed programs, confirm the credential and completion details with the institution that awarded it.

Check the eligibility grid and draw rules separately

The same work history may be relevant to your connection and your SWO eligibility score. Use the official grid to check work experience and adaptability points separately. Before submitting an Expression of Interest, read the criteria for the draws you are considering and use only the facts your documents can support.
