How do you file for permanent residence after an Atlantic Immigration Program endorsement?
Once you receive the confirmation of provincial endorsement, use IRCC’s IMM 0155 checklist to assemble your federal application. The portal has forms you complete online and PDFs you upload separately. Before you submit, check which forms apply, whose signatures they require and which supporting documents are still missing.
Separate the online forms from the PDF uploads
IRCC lists IMM 0008, IMM 5669, IMM 5406 and IMM 5562 as online forms. Follow the portal and checklist to determine who must complete each one. The PDF uploads include the IMM 0155 checklist, the AIP economic class form IMM 5501 and the employer’s offer form IMM 0157. Check the additional instructions if you have a common-law partner, a minor is immigrating without both parents or guardians, or you are appointing a representative.
Compare names, dates of birth, the employer and the work location across the passports, offer and endorsement. If a passport has been renewed or family information has changed, update the applicable forms and provide evidence or an explanation as needed. If a representative helps prepare the application, you still need to complete the electronic signature required from you.
Review the supporting documents before uploading
Include the endorsement and settlement plan. Use the checklist to identify the applicable passports, civil status records, education and language evidence, work experience and settlement funds documents. Review the separate instructions for photographs and police certificates. Check the validity of language results and educational assessments against your actual filing date.
For example, your spouse may renew a passport while you are waiting for endorsement. Before filing, check which forms need the new passport details and address any differences between documents. Open each scan before uploading. Make sure the pages with signatures, stamps or other relevant details are readable.
For a document in a language other than English or French, check IRCC’s requirements for the translation and the scan of the original or certified copy used by the translator. If a certified translator cannot complete the work, check the affidavit instructions. Family members and immigration representatives cannot translate these documents.
Keep a copy of what you actually submitted
Pay the applicable fees and include the receipt. Before submitting, check that the questions are answered, the required signatures are in place and the documents are attached. Save the final files and portal confirmation. IRCC says it will reject an incomplete application, which means you would have to correct the errors and submit again.
