Green List Tier 2: How to match your IRD earnings record to 24 months of work
For Work to Residence, download your Inland Revenue earnings record and compare it with payslips and employment documents for each period you intend to count. Immigration New Zealand lists an IRD earnings summary as one form of evidence. It also checks the work you did, when and where you did it, your average weekly hours and your employers' contact details. An income total alone does not establish those facts.
Download the income details for the relevant dates
In myIR, open the income tax account, choose “More…” and go to “My income”. Select “Print income details” for a breakdown of salaries, wages and other income. Choose the date range that covers the work you plan to claim. You can request a summary directly from IRD if you do not have myIR.
Check that the download covers each claimed period, especially if you changed jobs or crossed tax years. Use the Tier 2 qualifying work period guide to map the separate 30-month window.
Reconcile pay dates with dates worked
Suppose your employment ended in late June and your final pay arrived in July. Record the period covered by the payslip, the payment date and the employment end date separately. The July payment does not establish that you worked throughout July. If two employers paid you in the same month, identify the work period covered by each payslip before adding time to your calculation.
If the employer names differ across the agreement, payslip and IRD record, collect an explanation and the documents that connect them. An employer letter can help establish the role, hours and employment dates. Keep the original records and add a short note explaining each discrepancy.
Policy checked on 6 November 2026. See Immigration New Zealand's Work to Residence guidance and Inland Revenue's instructions for requesting an income summary.
