How to calculate Manitoba Skilled Worker Overseas points: A worked example
Skilled Worker Overseas (SWO) requires at least 60 eligibility points and a qualifying connection to Manitoba. Use the provincial eligibility grid to check language, age, work experience, education and adaptability. Then check Expression of Interest (EOI) ranking and the criteria for the draw separately.
A hypothetical calculation
Factor | Assumed evidence | Points |
Language | CLB 7 in the first official language | 18 |
Age | 32 years old | 10 |
Work experience | Four qualifying years of full-time work in the past five years | 15 |
Education | One two-year post-secondary program | 20 |
Adaptability | Support from a qualifying Manitoba friend | 10 |
Total | No other points claimed | 73 |
If the friend does not qualify, the first four factors still add up to 63. Without another qualifying Manitoba connection, the applicant does not meet SWO eligibility.
Check which evidence could change before filing
An approved language test must have been taken no more than two years before submitting the MPNP Online application. Age is assessed when Manitoba receives the full application. For work experience, check qualifying continuous full-time periods of at least six months in the past five years against your employer records. The adaptability grid awards points for only one type of connection. Once you have verified your eligibility evidence, check which candidates are considered in the relevant EOI draw.
