Fiji retirement residence: Who qualifies for a Residence Permit on Assured Income?
Start with three checks. Are you at least 45? Can you document enough income or assets outside Fiji to support yourself? Do you intend to live in Fiji without taking employment or operating a business there? Fiji's Ministry of Immigration lists those considerations alongside health and character requirements. Meeting the age requirement alone does not establish eligibility.
Show what you can draw on from outside Fiji
A regular overseas pension is one type of evidence. Gather the pension scheme statement and recent offshore bank statements, then identify the account holder, currency, available balance and any recurring payments. If you expect to rely on other overseas assets or income, distinguish what is actually available to spend from assets that would need to be sold or released. The Ministry asks for evidence that you can support yourself and any dependants. Its public guidance does not set out a single monthly pension figure for every household.
For example, a retiree may have a pension paid quarterly and a separate savings account. A short income schedule can show the quarterly amount, when it reaches the account and what funds are available between payments. Keep the source statements and original currency alongside the schedule.
Check what the permit allows and who can be included
This route is for people who intend to live in Fiji without working or operating a business there. If you plan to keep working while in Fiji, confirm the correct permit category before relying on this route. The Ministry's page limits dependants included in the application to legal spouses and children under 18. If a partner or child falls outside those categories, ask the Ministry about the applicable separate route before planning a joint move.
Separate initial eligibility from the later permit stage
The Ministry describes an initial six-month period, with the remaining two and a half years issued after it receives evidence of a qualifying remittance of FJD 100,000 and/or property purchase of at least that value. Check the conditions on the actual grant before transferring money or committing to property. Keep a separate household budget for housing, health costs and everyday spending.
For a route and document review, see Fiji retirement residence. Have your age, intended activities in Fiji, household members and the sources of your overseas funds ready.
