Turkey Passport Planning: Check Travel Rights Before Investing
Updated: Oct 25
A passport ranking is a snapshot, not an application outcome or a promise of future access. Before considering Turkish citizenship, check the destinations and activities that matter to your family. The ability to visit a country is different from the ability to live, work or operate a business there.
Build a destination checklist
For each destination, record whether a visa, electronic authorisation or other entry permission is needed, the purpose allowed and the permitted stay. Use the destination government's guidance. For example, Turkey appears on the UK's visa-required nationality list, subject to relevant exceptions. Do not treat a large headline destination count as proof that UK access is visa-free. Check the passport and personal circumstances of every traveller.
US business plans need a separate E-2 review
Turkey is included in the US treaty-country list for E-2 purposes. That does not mean every Turkish citizen will qualify for an E-2 visa. Applicants who acquired the relevant nationality through financial investment and have not previously held the relevant E status must also consider the statutory three-year continuous-domicile requirement. Assess that issue before building a timetable around citizenship and a US business investment. The business and other visa requirements remain separate.
Family relocation is a different decision
Ask where each family member intends to live, study or work. Review the receiving country's actual status requirements and the sequence of applications. Avoid plans that depend on a passport alone producing university admission, local tuition fees or permission to work. Keep a realistic alternative if a separate visa is refused or delayed.
Do not use citizenship as a tax shortcut
The OECD explains that citizenship or a right to reside does not automatically establish tax residence or remove it elsewhere. Before changing banking declarations or financial arrangements, obtain advice on your actual position. Passport planning should complement truthful reporting and a documented source of funds.
What to discuss with PremierVisa
Prepare your current citizenships, residence history, family details and a short list of essential destinations. Explain whether the purpose is mobility, relocation or business. An assessment can identify which questions belong to the citizenship application and which need separate destination-country advice. It cannot guarantee entry rules, visa decisions or financial outcomes.
