Hungary Guest Investor Family Applications: Consent for Minor Children

2 min read

When a minor child of a Hungary guest investor applies for family-reunification residence, the file needs more than evidence of the family relationship. The immigration authority’s guidance requires a minor applicant to show that a parent or legal representative consents to the child’s stay in Hungary. The form of the consent and its translation should be checked before filing.

Prove the child’s qualifying relationship first

The family-reunification guidance lists qualifying minor children, including eligible biological, adopted and foster children. A dependent minor may also qualify where the sponsor or spouse has parental custody. Prepare the birth record and, where relevant, adoption, foster-care and custody documents. If names or dates differ between documents, include the records that explain the difference.

Prepare consent from the parent or legal representative

The authority says the minor must prove consent from a parent or legal representative to stay in Hungary. The consent may be set out in a private or public document with full evidentiary force and must be accompanied by a Hungarian or English translation. Ask the competent Hungarian mission or immigration authority who must sign, and whether notarisation, authentication or a specific translation format is required.

If the parents are separated or divorced, one parent has sole custody, or a guardian is responsible for the child, check the court or authority decision and who is legally entitled to represent the applicant. The public guidance does not reduce every family arrangement to one signature rule. Do not assume that one parent’s signature is always enough or that both parents must sign in every case.

Children over six must be prepared to attend

The family-reunification guidance says a minor over six must appear in person when the application is submitted. The authority also takes a facial photograph and fingerprints from applicants over six. A parent or legal representative may submit the minor’s application, but should plan for the child to attend as required. Confirm the arrangements with the receiving authority if health or location creates a special circumstance.

Use a separate checklist for each child

Prepare each child’s travel document, birth or adoption record, custody evidence, consent and translation, application form and photograph. Then confirm the age-based attendance requirement, appointment method, document validity and local mission rules. The investor’s documents do not replace the child’s own identity and family-relationship evidence.

Who must sign, the required authentication and the child’s eligibility depend on the individual case and the Hungarian authority’s requirements.
