Hong Kong QMAS Renewal: Documents and Consultation

Your Hong Kong QMAS permission is approaching expiry. What evidence should you prepare, and how do your work, business and family circumstances affect the application? Get a focused renewal review with PremierVisa Group in Central, Hong Kong.

Start with your current permission

A useful review starts with your current limit of stay, your original assessment route and any conditions on your approval. Tell us whether this is your first or a later extension, whether your circumstances have changed, and whether family members need extensions too. We can discuss the documents to prepare and the questions that need attention before submission.

Which QMAS renewal route applies?

General Points Test: the Immigration Department requires evidence that you have taken steps to settle in Hong Kong, for example through gainful employment or an established business. The evidence should explain your actual circumstances, rather than simply repeat the credentials used for your original application.

Achievement-based Points Test: if an extension is needed, the financial resources to support and accommodate you and your dependants are relevant. Check your existing grant before assuming that the General Points Test renewal requirements apply to you.

Prepare a clear evidence file

If you are employed, organise your contract, employer confirmation, role description, pay records and relevant tax or MPF records. Explain job changes, overlapping roles or gaps in employment using a consistent timeline. Which documents are required depends on your case and the Immigration Department's current checklist.

If you run or participate in a business, organise evidence of your role and genuine operations: business registration, ownership records, customer contracts, invoices, banking and financial records, premises and staffing where relevant. A company registration certificate on its own does not explain what the business actually does.

For residence and family circumstances, prepare an accurate address and travel timeline, relevant accommodation evidence and each dependant's expiry date. If you have spent substantial time outside Hong Kong, explain the circumstances rather than relying on an assumed safe number of days.

Plan the timing before your visa expires

The official QMAS guidance provides a filing window within the three months before the current limit of stay expires. Start preparing earlier so missing documents can be addressed. Ask us to check the latest filing instructions and your travel plans before submission; the expiry date on your own permission is the date to work from.

If your permission is close to expiry or you have already received a request for further documents, tell us the exact deadline when you enquire. An urgent consultation cannot guarantee expedited processing or an extension. Do not assume that lodging an application itself gives you permission to remain after expiry.

How our Central team can help

We can review your current permission and circumstances, identify gaps in the available evidence, help organise a clear application file, and discuss responses to document requests. Ask for the proposed scope of work and a written service quotation. Government charges and professional service fees should be considered separately.

Common renewal questions

Can I renew after changing jobs? A job change needs to be explained with the relevant dates and documents. The answer depends on your current permission, assessment route and circumstances; a new contract should be reviewed alongside the rest of the file.

Will opening a company guarantee renewal? No. Discuss the real business activity, your participation and the evidence available. We do not offer guaranteed approvals or artificial employment arrangements.

Does renewal automatically lead to permanent residence? No. Extension of stay and permanent residence are separate assessments. A renewal approval is not a promise of a future right of abode or passport.

Can my family renew at the same time? Include each family member's status and expiry date in the review. Their evidence and deadlines should be checked separately rather than assumed to match yours.
