Australia Visa 600 Proof of Funds: Bank Statements and Family Support

Start with the trip, not an internet balance target

For an Australian subclass 600 Tourist stream application, a large balance alone does not explain how a trip will be paid for. A useful financial file connects the planned costs, the person paying them and the evidence showing where the money comes from. This guide concerns applicants outside Australia and practical ways to organise that information.

Home Affairs asks for evidence of sufficient money for the visit and departure. Its examples include three months of itemised personal bank statements, payslips, tax records and term deposits. The page does not publish one universal minimum bank balance for every applicant. Treat a number quoted on a forum as something to check, rather than a government rule. [S1]

Official guidance checked on 18 October 2026. The worksheets and filing suggestions below are preparation methods, not extra statutory requirements. Financial evidence is one part of the application, not an approval prediction.

Four checks for visitor visa funds: trip costs, the payer, supporting financial records and final translated submission copies.

A preparation method, not a fixed government checklist or an approval promise.

Make one budget that explains who pays

List the realistic costs of return travel, accommodation, food, local transport and planned activities. Give each item a payer, an estimate, whether it is already paid and a reference to any supporting record. Use actual information where it exists. If a cost is only an estimate, label it accordingly rather than making it look like a confirmed booking.

If an adult child provides accommodation for visiting parents, identify the relevant dates. Do not simultaneously include the same hotel nights in a second version of the budget. Where the visitor buys the flights and a relative covers meals, show that split clearly. One sentence saying that the family will pay everything can conceal several different arrangements.

A worksheet involving more than one currency should keep the original amounts visible. When providing an Australian-dollar estimate, record the conversion date and rate used. The converted estimate is not proof that the applicant already holds that amount in Australian dollars. This small distinction helps avoid contradictions between the budget and bank records.

Match the type of record to the question

A balance certificate shows a position at a point in time. Transaction statements show movements. Salary, pension or business records can explain income. These documents do different jobs; choose and label them according to what they establish rather than assembling a large bundle without an explanation.

Create a short index with the account holder, currency, statement period and document name. Where a record has several pages, keep the sequence clear. Do not submit an impressive-looking page that loses the account holder or period needed to understand it.

Before finalising the file, ask a second reader to trace one major cost in the budget to the proposed payer and evidence. If that connection is not clear, improve the explanation. There is no need to invent additional financial history or claim every optional record is mandatory. Use the requirements of the actual application and the person's circumstances.

Family support needs a defined scope

Where an Australian relative or friend invites the applicant and pays for the stay, Home Affairs asks for evidence of that person's funds. The invitation can explain the relationship, purpose, duration and accommodation. A promise to provide a room and a promise to pay all travel costs are different statements. [S1]

A practical support note should therefore say what the person really intends to cover. Put the relationship evidence and relevant financial records beside that note in the index. An account belonging to a supporter must not be described as the applicant's own savings.

Also distinguish informal financial support in the Tourist stream from the separate Sponsored family stream. Do not choose an application stream merely because someone used the word sponsor in a conversation. This article concerns financial preparation for the overseas Tourist stream; a different stream needs its own eligibility review.

Explain significant recent deposits without changing the facts

For an important recent credit, establish whether it came from another account belonging to the applicant, a maturing deposit, a bonus, a sale or a family contribution. A concise explanation can connect the date, amount, source and available records. Where appropriate, match the outgoing and incoming transfers rather than leaving the reader to guess.

This is a method for explaining material transactions, not a rule requiring a letter about every daily purchase. Keep the explanation proportionate to the question. Do not borrow money merely to inflate a snapshot and then describe it as long-standing personal savings.

If an asset cannot readily be used for the trip, say so. A property valuation or restricted investment is not automatically cash available for flights and accommodation. Retain genuine records and explain limitations instead of editing statements or hiding a transaction that appears inconvenient.

Retired, self-employed and shared household finances

A retired visitor can organise evidence around genuine pension income and savings. A person with irregular freelance income may have existing contracts, receipts and tax records that help explain the pattern. These are ways to build an understandable file, not separate universal document lists for each occupation.

For a couple sharing expenses, identify each person's contribution and the shared costs. Avoid counting the same family savings several times as though every traveller independently owns the whole amount. A family-level budget can help reconcile the figures while keeping individual identities and responsibilities clear.

If the records do not support an assumption in the draft budget, change the assumption or obtain the missing genuine evidence. Do not ask a translator or adviser to rewrite the facts to make the finances appear simpler.

Translate carefully and keep a submission copy

Provide English translations with non-English originals. For this visa, translators in Australia need NAATI accreditation. Translators outside Australia need not have that accreditation, but must provide the required identifying, contact and language-experience information in English. Check the current instructions rather than assuming every overseas translation must be notarised. [S2]

Compare the account holder's name with the passport, and check currencies, periods and significant amounts between original and translation. If name spellings differ, keep the original records and explain the difference with appropriate evidence. Do not silently change a bank document to match a preferred spelling.

Save the final files and index before uploading. Home Affairs warns that uploaded supporting documents cannot later be retrieved from ImmiAccount. Keeping your own submission copy lets you check what was actually provided if a question arises. [S3]

Questions to settle before asking for a review

Does owning a home remove the need for a travel budget? Property may help explain circumstances, but it does not itself identify who will pay for this trip. Keep the funding explanation distinct from an asset valuation.

Are three months of statements the complete checklist? No. They are one official example. The application instructions and personal situation still matter; do not turn a suggested additional period into a supposed legal minimum. [S1]

Does enough money guarantee approval? No. The visit purpose and other applicable requirements still need to be assessed. A financial file should explain the financial facts accurately, without promising an outcome.

For an initial consultation, prepare the draft itinerary, expense split, existing document index and a list of significant credits requiring explanation. Use the designated private assessment channel. Do not paste bank statements or account details into public comments. Explain where you are applying from and who will fund the visit so the service scope can be discussed clearly.
