Renewed your passport after entering the Australian subclass 462 ballot?
The step to take depends on whether Home Affairs has selected your registration. If you are still waiting for selection and your registration shows “Received”, update your new passport details through the ImmiAccount used for the original registration. If you have already been selected and renew your passport before lodging the visa application, provide both old and new passport details in the visa application form. You still need a valid passport issued by the eligible ballot country.
While your registration is awaiting selection
Sign in to the original ImmiAccount and locate your Work and Holiday ballot registration. Home Affairs allows certain updates after payment, once the registration shows “Received”. Compare the new passport number and details with the new biodata page before saving the update. Keep the registration ID and a copy of the old passport page for reference.
A renewed passport issued by the same country and a passport issued by a different country are separate situations. Home Affairs lists country of passport and national ID number among the details that cannot be changed after submitting the registration. If the original entry contains a mistake, check the Department’s guidance for that situation and retain the documents that show what happened.
After selection, but before you lodge
Keep the selection notice and open the visa application linked to your registration. Enter the old and new passport details where the form asks for them. If the passport authority kept your old passport, look for a copy of its biodata page and check it against your registration. If the name or another identifying detail differs between the two documents, gather evidence of the change so you can explain the discrepancy if asked.
For example, suppose your old passport was valid when you registered and you received the replacement after selection. The old number helps match the application to the ballot registration, and the new passport establishes the passport details you are using for the application. Label each copy clearly and keep any renewal evidence with them.
Check the deadline while you wait for the new passport
Home Affairs gives selected applicants 28 calendar days after notification to lodge, with the cutoff based on Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST). Check the date in your notice and ImmiAccount. Set it alongside your expected passport collection date and your travel dates, since you must lodge the first 462 from outside Australia. If passport collection is delayed, use the deadline shown in the notice when reassessing your plans.
If you have already lodged the visa application, use the process for updating the lodged application. For a review with Premiervisa Group, gather the selection notice, registration ID and the two passport records first.
