Turkey Citizenship by Bank Deposit: Questions Before Committing Funds
Updated: Oct 25
A bank deposit can appear simpler than buying and managing a property, but it still requires a careful review of the citizenship process and financial terms. Turkey's Investment Office describes a deposit of at least US$500,000 in a bank operating in Turkey, committed for at least three years. That threshold should not be presented as a promise of capital protection, a US-dollar account or citizenship approval.
Confirm the actual currency arrangements
Obtain written explanations from the bank and local professional about the qualifying deposit and any required conversion. Record the currency of the blocked balance, the applicable interest and charges, and how release and repayment operate. A threshold expressed in US dollars does not settle those questions. Compare adverse currency scenarios and the costs of moving funds into and out of the arrangement.
Understand the restriction on access to funds
Ask when the holding period starts, what evidence records the restriction and which actions could affect compliance. Establish whether the funds can be pledged, transferred or withdrawn and what consequences would follow. Keep separate resources for your household and business rather than relying on access to the committed balance. A commitment that fits one investor's liquidity position may be unsuitable for another.
Do not merge separate benefits into one guarantee
Citizenship, future travel permissions and another country's visa are different decisions. If the objective is a US E-2 application, review treaty nationality, the rules for nationality obtained through investment, domicile and the proposed business separately. If tax planning is an objective, obtain advice about your actual tax residence and reporting obligations; a new citizenship does not automatically remove existing obligations.
Prepare the funding and application record
Document how the funds were earned, where they are held and the proposed transfer route. Prepare identity and family records consistently with the bank's and government's requirements. Confirm the documents and official attestations needed before sending money. Independently verify payment instructions and identify which bank, legal and immigration professionals are responsible for each step.
Assess the route before deciding
Ask PremierVisa for a preliminary immigration review and a clear description of the proposed service work. Bank terms and financial suitability need their own professional assessment. Compare the deposit route with alternatives using costs, evidence, liquidity and your real objective. Approval, interest, exchange rates and eventual financial outcomes remain uncertain.
