Part-Time UK Skilled Worker Jobs: Going Rates, Annual Thresholds and Countable Pay
Reducing weekly hours does not mean every Skilled Worker salary requirement can be reduced by the same percentage. The annual salary threshold for the applicable option and the occupation's going rate are distinct tests. Establish the real hours and countable pay before accepting a part-time sponsored contract.
Start with the role and the applicable option
Record the actual duties, occupation code, weekly hours and guaranteed remuneration. A company describing a role as senior or specialist is not enough to identify the correct code. If the duties are changing with the hours, review the employment and sponsorship position rather than treating the change as a simple payroll adjustment.
Historic permission, a relevant qualification or other personal circumstances may determine which salary option is available. Do not use a lower threshold merely because another sponsored employee qualified for it. The written calculation should identify the applicant's own option and the evidence supporting it, using the current rules for the intended application.
Calculate the going rate using the correct hours basis
Appendix Skilled Worker sets out how going rates are adjusted for the working pattern. The usual tables for the specified occupation groups use a 37.5-hour basis, while listed health and education occupations have their own arrangements. Check the actual table rather than using the same divisor for every profession.
The annual minimum for the salary option must also be met. A pro-rated going rate calculation does not by itself authorize pro-rating that separate annual threshold. Ask for both results to be shown, with the relevant percentage where a genuine salary concession applies. Use the actual contractual hours and preserve the calculation with the CoS record.
Separate basic pay from the advertised package
The rules specify what counts as salary and exclude various extras, including bonus or overtime pay, allowances and benefits within the stated exclusions. A total reward package can therefore exceed the countable immigration salary. Ask payroll to distinguish guaranteed basic gross pay from benefits and additional payments instead of relying only on the offer's headline value.
A discretionary bonus should not be described as guaranteed basic salary because it would make the application reach a threshold. Similarly, accommodation, employer contributions or a one-off joining payment require their correct treatment. Use the true contract and remuneration structure; changing the name of a payment does not settle its treatment under the rules.
Longer hours do not cure every shortfall
The rules distinguish the treatment of hours for the annual threshold from the going-rate test and include provisions for certain irregular working patterns. A proposal to add very long hours should therefore be assessed carefully, not treated as a universal way to make an hourly rate reach the required annual figure.
Provide the genuine working cycle where hours vary, including unpaid rest periods where relevant. Do not assume that a representative busy week describes the whole contract. The employer should be able to explain the pay and hours consistently across sponsorship, payroll and the actual work arrangement.
Check deductions and later changes
Relevant payments from the worker to a sponsor or related organisation can affect the salary assessment under the formal rules. Disclose the real arrangement for loans, repayments or other proposed payments so it can be reviewed. A contract stating a high salary alongside an undisclosed requirement to return money does not establish a reliable calculation.
If hours or pay will change after arrival, obtain advice before implementing the change. There may be sponsorship, reporting or application consequences depending on the facts. An original approval is not a statement that every later part-time arrangement will continue to satisfy the same requirements.
Keep a calculation an employer can maintain
Retain the role description, applicable table, hours, countable annual pay and genuine contract. Reconcile them before the CoS is used, and review actual payroll against the approved arrangement. 卓越移民 Premiervisa Group can help organise the documents for an appropriately qualified adviser to assess the salary and sponsorship position with the employer, with any unresolved discrepancy addressed before filing.
