UK Healthcare and Teaching Salary Rules: National Pay Scales and Skilled Worker Sponsorship
Certain healthcare and education occupations have different Skilled Worker salary rules. GOVUK currently states a minimum of £25,000, or more where the relevant going rate is higher. Do not treat that figure as the salary for every job in a hospital, school or care business: the eligible occupation and national pay scale must be established.
Identify the profession and sponsored duties
Start with the actual job description and occupation code. A company operating in healthcare may employ people in several different professions, and not all roles fall within the same salary provision. The applicant's previous qualification alone does not determine how a new UK job should be classified.
Obtain the employing entity, location, contracted hours and intended role before comparing pay. Where recruitment material uses a broad title, ask the sponsor to identify the actual occupation and responsibilities. Keep professional duties distinct from administrative or support work rather than selecting a code because it has a more attractive salary figure.
Read the relevant national pay scale
For listed occupations, GOVUK directs applicants to the national healthcare or education pay tables, with the relevant role, band and area. The correct figure can therefore depend on more than the employer's proposed annual total. Ask which band and table entry support the offer and keep that information with the contract.
The annual minimum and the relevant going rate must both be satisfied under the applicable rules. Do not stop after seeing that a salary reaches the headline minimum. Working hours and the rules for the particular occupation also need to be considered. A previous year's table or another UK region may not answer the current role's calculation.
Private employment does not remove the going-rate check
GOVUK says these going rates apply in both the public and private sectors. A private clinic or school should therefore not be assumed to have a general exemption from the relevant immigration salary requirement. The actual remuneration and duties need to be assessed against the applicable provision.
A private employer may describe its own grading or reward structure differently from a national scale. Obtain a clear explanation of how the sponsored job and pay are being matched. The sponsor's commercial title should not replace the evidence needed to identify the immigration salary requirement.
Separate basic pay, extras and professional conditions
Ask for guaranteed basic pay, allowances, overtime and other benefits to be itemised. The treatment of remuneration follows the immigration rules, so an attractive overall package does not automatically establish sufficient countable salary. Disclose relevant deductions or other arrangements rather than using the headline offer alone.
Professional registration is a separate matter. Meeting the salary requirement does not establish that someone is authorised to practise a regulated profession. Obtain the actual registration or licensing requirements from the relevant regulator, and compare those steps with the proposed job start and sponsorship arrangements. Neither an interview nor an offer should be described as completed registration.
Consider family eligibility and the visa subtype separately
Salary rules for a listed health or education occupation should not be used to infer eligibility for every Health and Care Worker provision or for all dependants. Establish the actual sponsored route, employer and occupation, then review the relevant family and fee conditions. One favourable element does not decide the complete application.
Prepare a family budget with government charges, any healthcare surcharge that applies, regulator costs and professional service fees shown separately. Use current official charges when the application is prepared; do not assume that the employer's payment of one item covers every family member or every required process.
Retain the role description, correct pay-table entry, contracted hours, salary breakdown and CoS information. If the duties, location or pay change, request a fresh review before implementing the arrangement. 卓越移民 Premiervisa Group can help organise the records for an appropriately qualified adviser and the employer to assess, with professional registration and government decisions confirmed by the respective authorities.
