UK Skilled Worker Maintenance Funds: £1,270, the 28-Day Period and Sponsor Certification

The usual Skilled Worker maintenance requirement is £1,270, held for at least 28 consecutive days, with the final day falling within 31 days before application. This is evidence of money for support, separate from visa charges and the healthcare surcharge. First check whether you need to provide bank evidence or qualify under an applicable exemption or sponsor certification arrangement.

Identify who must demonstrate funds

Current guidance describes circumstances involving at least 12 months in the UK with valid permission and an appropriate sponsor's confirmation of maintenance. A job offer promising a future salary is not the same as the required certification on the CoS. Read the actual additional-data entry rather than assuming every licensed employer has certified maintenance for every worker.

Review family members separately. A worker who has already lived in the UK for the relevant period may have dependants applying from overseas with a different evidence requirement. Record each person's location, permission and application date. Do not treat the principal applicant's exemption as an automatic household exemption.

Work backwards from the intended application date

The 28-day holding period and 31-day connection to application are different checks. The evidence must support the required balance throughout the relevant period, not just show that the account reached the amount on the day a statement was printed. An intervening withdrawal can matter even if the closing balance is later restored.

Obtain a genuine statement or bank document covering the actual period. Reconcile its issue date, transaction history and balance with the planned filing date. If the document does not establish the necessary facts, request the appropriate record from the bank rather than adding information to a scan or using a self-made statement.

Use funds and accounts that meet the rules

The financial-evidence guidance distinguishes accessible money from other assets and identifies evidence that is not accepted, including overdrafts, stocks and shares. A total wealth report can therefore show substantial assets without establishing the required maintenance evidence. Separate available cash from investment values and credit facilities before calculating a balance.

Where reliance on a partner's account is proposed, check the applicable account-holder and relationship conditions. The fact that a relative has offered help does not mean every account can be used in the same way. Keep the real ownership and access arrangements clear and provide appropriate evidence for the actual basis being used.

Apply the official foreign-currency approach

GOVUK's financial-evidence guidance uses the OANDA spot exchange rate on the application date to convert a foreign-currency balance into sterling. Do not choose a historically favourable rate to present an uncertain balance as sufficient. Keep the original currency and bank figures visible so the calculation can be checked.

A planning estimate can allow room for exchange-rate movement without being described as an additional government percentage requirement. Do not invent a fixed mandatory buffer. If money moves between accounts, retain the genuine transaction and ownership records, and have the effect on the required continuous period reviewed.

Make the bank evidence identifiable

The official guidance describes information such as the account holder, bank, issue date and balance. Appropriate electronic statements can be used under the stated requirements; this does not mean that every mobile-banking screenshot is sufficient. Check the actual document and any translation needed to understand it.

Resolve name differences using genuine supporting records rather than editing the bank's document. The government may verify evidence, so preserve a clear original record and do not assert that funds have been confirmed where information is still missing. Ask the bank for clarification where a transaction or certificate format is unclear.

Keep the relocation budget separate

Maintenance evidence is not the complete cost of moving. Government charges, any healthcare surcharge, translation, professional services, housing and travel need their own budget. Sponsor certification does not establish that the employer will pay every family expense. 卓越移民 Premiervisa Group can help organise the CoS, actual statements and family details for an appropriately qualified adviser to assess the remaining evidence and timing questions before filing.
