UK Skilled Worker B2 English Evidence: SELT, English-Taught Degrees and Existing Permission
English evidence for a Skilled Worker application depends on the route and permission history, not simply on whether the applicant speaks English at work. Current new applications and switches from a different route generally require B2, while specified existing-holder extensions or updates have different provisions. Establish the applicable requirement before booking a test or paying for a qualification assessment.
Start with the application and permission history
Provide the actual current permission and previous relevant grants. GOVUK describes the position for someone who held the relevant Skilled Worker visa before January 8, 2026, including B1 and the stated arrangements for not proving English again. It also distinguishes switching from Health and Care Worker permission from switching from a different visa.
Do not treat an earlier period of UK residence as proof of the required immigration history. A visitor, student and sponsored worker have different records. Obtain the actual decision where a date or route is uncertain, and identify which provision the adviser is applying rather than relying on a general statement that English was accepted before.
Check an English-taught degree using the correct procedure
The official guidance describes recognised qualifications and the assessment required for a degree taught in English and awarded outside the UK. The specified Ecctis process addresses equivalence to a UK degree and English-medium study. An institution's letter can be relevant supporting information but should not automatically be treated as the completed immigration evidence.
Retain the genuine award, institution details and required study records. Using English textbooks or speaking English during professional work does not change the language in which a qualification was actually taught. Do not alter the course description or invent a medium-of-instruction statement to avoid a test.
Book an approved SELT rather than only a familiar brand
If using a test, check the current approved provider, specific test and centre for the required purpose. A provider may offer several products, and a result used for university admission is not automatically the secure test required for a visa. Confirm the relevant reading, writing, listening and speaking evidence rather than relying solely on an overall result.
Use the current official lists before paying. Check identity-document requirements and keep the booking, actual test version and result-verification details. A coaching company's description of immigration English does not replace the approved list. Where an existing result is available, have the version, date and prior use reviewed before assuming a new test is either unnecessary or compulsory.
Verify exemptions from the applicant's actual documents
GOVUK lists nationalities for which separate English proof is not required and describes specific professional language-assessment circumstances. Residence in an English-speaking place, employment by a UK company or an overseas relative does not by itself establish one of those exemptions. Provide the real nationality and professional records relevant to the claim.
A colleague's exemption may rest on a different passport or regulated-profession assessment. Do not extend that person's outcome to everyone in the same business. Where more than one nationality or professional qualification is involved, explain the complete position and identify which evidence will be used for this application.
Plan the evidence before the sponsorship deadline becomes urgent
Record the proposed evidence route, documents already available, any outstanding assessment or test, and the intended submission date. Different routes involve different procedures and costs. Avoid purchasing several unnecessary services without first establishing which evidence is needed, while allowing time for genuine missing records or a required retake.
An expected test result should remain an expectation until issued. A saved application does not make a future score an existing fact, and an employer's preferred start date does not waive the English requirement. Keep the actual evidence consistent with the passport and application details.
Complete the remaining visa checks independently
Satisfying English is one part of the application. The role, sponsor, salary, identity and other individual requirements still need review. 卓越移民 Premiervisa Group can help organise the permission history, qualifications and test records for an appropriately qualified adviser to identify the applicable evidence route and any genuine outstanding steps, without presenting one completed requirement as approval of the whole visa.
