UK Skilled Worker Dependants: Partner Evidence, Children and Occupation Restrictions

A Skilled Worker approval does not automatically approve a partner or children. Each dependant needs the appropriate application and evidence, and some sponsored occupations have restrictions or transitional conditions. Start with the worker's actual occupation and permission history before building a family budget or promising a shared moving date.

Check whether the sponsored role can support the family

GOVUK has specific provisions for care workers, senior care workers and medium-skilled occupations, including different in-country and overseas circumstances. They should not be reduced to either all workers can bring dependants or no family members can ever apply. Obtain the exact occupation, relevant CoS history and each family member's current location and permission.

An exception for a UK-born child or a particular existing family situation should not be extended to a new partner application without checking the actual rule. Likewise, an employer's statement that colleagues brought their families in an earlier year does not establish the position for a new application under current conditions.

Prepare evidence of the real partnership

The official guidance recognises specified married, civil-partner and qualifying unmarried-partner relationships. Evidence should address the actual basis being used. A marriage certificate can establish a formal event, but other required relationship and identity information still needs to be consistent with the application.

For an unmarried relationship, do not assume that any single photograph or holiday proves the complete requirement. Where the couple cannot live together, GOVUK describes evidence of an ongoing commitment in the relevant circumstances. Present genuine communication, shared responsibilities and other appropriate records rather than creating a lease or backdating a document.

Review each child's eligibility and situation

Children need their own assessment of age, existing dependant permission where relevant, relationship and living circumstances. An older child already holding dependant permission is different from a new adult child being added to a family application. Keep the birth, identity and current permission records for each person.

Where a child lives away for full-time education or another parent has a separate immigration position, provide the actual facts. Custody and parental responsibility questions should be supported by the appropriate legal records. Do not assume that a principal applicant's signed statement settles the rights of another parent or every immigration requirement concerning a child.

A family linking code can connect applications, but does not turn them into a single approval. Check the worker's details consistently across the forms while keeping each applicant's evidence and submission status clear. One receipt or decision should not be described as proof that the whole family is approved.

Record expiry dates separately. GOVUK explains the usual link to the principal applicant's expiry and the relevance of parents having different end dates. Do not assume that an employer's sponsorship extension has automatically extended a child or partner. Review their own next steps before current permission expires.

Budget by person and by type of cost

Prepare current government application charges, any applicable healthcare surcharge and relevant document expenses separately from professional service fees. Check the actual route and exemption before assuming that an employer paying one charge covers every family member. Maintenance evidence also needs its own review under the applicable circumstances.

School deposits, housing and travel are practical commitments with their own cancellation terms. A planned moving date should remain a plan until the required decisions and documents are available. Keep a workable arrangement if the family receives decisions at different times rather than promising that all applications will finish together.

Check permissions after approval

Read each formal decision and digital status, including work, study and expiry conditions applicable to that person. Keep passports and UKVI account information current before travel. 卓越移民 Premiervisa Group can help organise the worker's occupation history and the family's relationship, identity and timing records for an appropriately qualified adviser to assess the remaining requirements and application steps.
