Slovenia Digital Nomad Family Applications: Immediate Reunification, Relationships and Additional Resources

Slovenia permits digital nomads to seek family reunification immediately, without the usual restriction linked to the sponsor's length of residence or permit validity. The official digital nomad page also allows the family application to be submitted alongside the principal application. This does not mean instant approval or that one person's documents establish the whole household's eligibility.

Separate simultaneous submission from a shared decision

Plan the principal applicant's work and support evidence alongside each family member's file. Simultaneous preparation and submission can help coordinate the household, but government review and the resulting documents remain individual. Do not promise that everyone will receive a decision or collect a card on the same date.

Record each person's passport, current location and existing permission. Members of one family can have different nationalities and entry conditions. The principal applicant's lawful stay or application receipt should not automatically be presented as authority for everyone else to remain or travel.

Establish the legal relationship

The general family guidance lists a spouse or the relevant legally recognised partnership, minor unmarried children and the applicable children of a spouse or partner. Use genuine relationship documents and explain a name change or previous legal event where necessary. Living together or having a joint account does not by itself establish every listed relationship.

For a child, organise the birth, adoption or other relevant legal records and any custody or consent questions. An adviser cannot supply another parent's consent or create a legal relationship. Review the actual documents before making school, housing or travel commitments dependent on a particular family application.

Review parents and adult children individually

The official family categories have specific provisions for parents and adult unmarried children, including situations involving a minor sponsor and legal maintenance duties under the relevant nationality law. An adult's lack of income or the sponsor's willingness to send money is not automatically the same as the required legal obligation.

If such a relative wishes to join, establish the age, marital status, relationship and legal basis for maintenance. Obtain appropriate legal assessment where needed. Do not sell an unrestricted whole-family package or describe every economically dependent relative as eligible merely because the principal applicant has substantial resources.

Add support beyond the principal requirement

The digital nomad FAQ states that twice the average net monthly salary is the principal applicant's resources requirement, and family members require additional resources. The relevant household calculation and evidence should be confirmed using the actual family composition and applicable instructions.

Do not borrow Croatia's family percentage or another country's formula. Keep account ownership, original currency, period and availability clear. A larger balance does not remove the need for the correct family relationship, and a private household spending estimate should not be labelled the official support test.

Prepare each member's documents and insurance

The general family list includes the form, photograph, passport, appropriate health insurance, resources, background document and evidence of the relationship. The principal applicant's overseas work contract cannot replace those personal documents. Translation and certification depend on the actual issuing documents and receiving requirements.

Review insurance for each person rather than assuming one policy covers everyone. The official requirements concern appropriate cover including at least emergency medical services in Slovenia; individual healthcare needs and exclusions require their own consideration. Residence permission is not a promise that all treatment is free.

School admission and a spouse's proposed work have separate practical and legal questions. Confirm the actual activity, institution and individual rights rather than inferring every entitlement from family reunification. Finally, align the household's plans with the principal permit's temporary nature: up to one year, without extension, and any later residence purpose requiring its own assessment.
