Slovenia Digital Nomad Documents and Procedure: Overseas Filing, In-Country Certificate and Personal Card Collection

A Slovenia digital nomad application needs evidence of qualifying overseas remote work, resources, identity, health insurance and background. A person already lawfully in Slovenia may use the specified domestic procedure; an overseas consular application has a different effect regarding the certificate used as temporary residence evidence. Preparation, formal submission, approval and card collection should be recorded separately.

Establish the actual lawful submission route

List the passport, present location and current visa or residence documents before choosing where to apply. The government describes applications through Slovenian diplomatic or consular posts abroad and, for those lawfully in Slovenia, administrative units in Slovenia. A proposed trip or an appointment does not itself establish lawful presence.

The specialist guidance lists the relevant identity, passport and visa or other Member State residence-document branches for lawful domestic filing. Check the actual document and permitted stay. Family members with different documents need separate assessment rather than borrowing the principal applicant's position.

Connect work evidence to the person

Show the employment or civil-law contract with the business entity outside Slovenia, or the overseas self-employment evidence, and explain how the work is performed remotely. Identify the parties, activity and periods. A statement that someone can work from home does not necessarily explain permission to work from another country.

Where the contracting entity and payer differ, explain the real relationship. For self-employment, link registration and actual activity to the relevant records; passive shareholding and business turnover alone do not describe the person's work or available resources. Do not manufacture clients or rewrite a contract to fit the route.

Assemble the listed personal and financial documents

The official list includes the completed form, suitable photograph, valid passport, appropriate health insurance covering at least emergency medical services in Slovenia, sufficient resources and a home-country criminal-record certificate. The monthly resources basis is at least twice the relevant average monthly net salary; family members require additional support.

Keep the original currency, account holder, payment period and lawful source visible in financial records. Check the accepted certificate form, translation and certification requirements for the actual issuing jurisdiction. Do not assume that English-document rules used by another country apply to Slovenia, or that a translator can correct substantive errors in the original.

Retain the formal in-country certificate

Infotujci explains that an application made through an administrative unit by someone lawfully in Slovenia leads to a certificate serving as temporary residence evidence until the decision. Establish timely lawful filing and retain the actual issued certificate. An email to a consultant or a private upload receipt is not a substitute.

The same guidance says an application through a diplomatic mission or consulate does not provide that certificate as a temporary residence basis in Slovenia. Do not turn an overseas application into an automatic right to arrive and wait locally. Any travel, re-entry or proposed activity must be checked using the actual documents and their scope.

Complete fingerprints, decision and card collection

The official sequence includes fingerprint collection at filing or later, consideration by the administrative unit, the decision and personal collection of the card. A representative organising documents does not remove the requirement to collect the card personally. Keep requests and responses so that the latest genuine submission can be identified.

Once the card is received and the person is in Slovenia, the guidance calls for registration of the actual temporary address. Address registration has its own government rules, evidence and responsibilities depending on the accommodation arrangement. A signed rental agreement or permit approval should not automatically be marked as completed address registration.

Record those milestones with their actual evidence. The application does not guarantee a particular processing date, and the resulting permit is temporary, up to one year without extension. Preparing the later timetable alongside the first file helps avoid discovering the limit only after a household has made longer commitments.
