AIP Fund Rules From September 2026: Checks Before and After Investing

The AIP managed-fund and direct-investment changes effective from 28 September 2026 strengthen deployment planning and continuing oversight. An applicant considering a new investment and a person who already invested need different date-specific reviews. The announcement does not, by itself, establish that every family must restart an application or that every previously advertised product remains suitable indefinitely.

A product's acceptability is distinct from an individual's visa assessment. Listing does not establish that the family's source of funds, health, character or relationship evidence has been accepted. Approval in principle for the person does not make every financial product acceptable. Identify which body made which decision before relying on a general claim of government approval.

Identify the actual product and current evidence

Request the formal product name, legal entity, manager, intended category and relevant official basis. A different fund in the same group having been accepted is not confirmation for this investment. Retain the date of the check and the actual subscription history, rather than relying on an old screenshot or a salesperson's recollection.

Appendix 15 addresses the managed-fund list and Invest NZ confirmation for direct investments. Company registration, financial regulation, investment acceptability and a visa grant are not interchangeable certificates. A file should make these distinctions clear enough that a reviewer can identify precisely what remains unconfirmed.

Do not turn the fund's deployment period into a personal extension

Current Appendix 15 requires a deployment plan consistent with the fund's investment policy and objectives. Continuing oversight includes deployment during the first twelve months following inclusion on the acceptable managed-fund list, subject to the stated assessment of circumstances justifying delay. The starting event concerns the fund's listing, not each household's approval-in-principle date.

The applicant's transfer and investment timetable must be checked separately against INZ requirements and the actual letter. Put the personal deadline alongside subscription, capital-call and deployment events. A fund not yet calling capital does not establish that every personal obligation is complete, and a requested transfer extension is not an approved extension.

The six-month stand-down has a specific subject

The Appendix 15 stand-down concerns managed schemes or direct-investment entities reapplying after Invest NZ declines or revokes acceptable-investment status. It should not be rewritten as a rule that every individual AIP refusal requires a six-month wait. Read the decision's recipient, authority, nature and date rather than treating all rejected applications as the same event.

Managed-fund status and direct-investment confirmation may be suspended or revoked under their respective provisions. For temporary suspension, the instructions distinguish investments already made before the relevant removal or suspension from applications made during it. Do not automatically describe all earlier investments as invalid, or extend that treatment into a universal assurance about every revocation. The actual history requires review.

Immigration acceptance does not replace investment due diligence

The instructions explain that the relevant verification is not a test guaranteeing financial health or growth potential. Review fees, exit terms, liquidity and risk with appropriately qualified professionals. The Growth label is not a promise of growth. Ordinary pure-property assets do not become qualifying Growth investments simply by being packaged with a fund name.

Before payment, retain the current official evidence, commercial documents, proposed investment date and unresolved questions. Existing investors should preserve subscription, call and holding records and review any actual status change promptly. Keep each professional's responsibility clear. This article does not recommend a product or promise capital recovery, returns, processing times or a visa outcome.
