MTEP Family Passes: Established Entrepreneur Spouses, Children, Parents and Work Arrangements

MDEC's public MTEP FAQ gives different family arrangements for New and Established Entrepreneurs. It states that New Entrepreneurs are not eligible to bring family members under that programme framework. Established Entrepreneurs have specified RP-dependent and RP-SVP arrangements. The categories should not be advertised as a single five-year family card available to everyone.

Confirm the principal applicant's category first

A family plan depends on the founder's actual qualifying route. The longer Established arrangement has its own business, funding and document requirements. Wanting to relocate with relatives does not supply missing evidence for that category.

Review the real product, founder role, company history, personal resources, previous fundraising and sponsor arrangements before planning family departures. A consultant beginning the principal file is not approval of the principal person or any relative.

Separate the RP-dependent categories

The FAQ lists a husband or wife, children including adopted children or stepchildren under 18, and the stated disabled-child category verified by experts. It also describes a specific biological-child situation involving a common-law relationship.

Apply the actual published relationship and evidence rules rather than assuming every person described informally as family qualifies. Keep ages, identity records and marriage or birth evidence accurate. A photograph or a general household description is not a substitute for the required relationship documentation.

Check parents and adult children under their own arrangement

The FAQ separately lists relatives who may be considered for RP-SVP, described as 12 months and renewable. These include parents and parents-in-law, along with specified adult-child and relationship situations.

For children aged 18 to 25 in the stated category, the FAQ calls for a sworn statement certified by a Commissioner of Oaths confirming that the person remains unmarried, unemployed and dependent at each submission or extension. Do not treat dependency alone as making every adult child equivalent to a minor.

Different periods and conditions affect the household timetable and costs. The principal person's maximum validity should not simply be inserted into every relative's application plan.

Understand the spouse's work statement in context

The FAQ states that a spouse under RP-MTE is eligible to work in Malaysia. Read that with the actual valid permission issued and applicable immigration conditions. An application being prepared or submitted should not be reported as a spouse already holding work permission.

A spouse who is also a founder should have a consistent description across the business and family records. Share ownership, professional activity and the chosen immigration basis are connected but distinct questions. The family arrangement does not remove company, professional or industry obligations.

Prepare an individual file for each person

List passports, relationships, dates, existing status and the proposed pass, then keep an overall family index. Resolve real name or date differences through supporting records rather than altering the source documents. The FAQ requires applications and supporting documents in English.

The 2026 Established renewal checklist includes active health insurance for the applicant and dependants. Review who is actually insured and for which dates. Fees, policy costs and renewal timing should also be budgeted individually rather than hidden in a principal-only price.

Coordinate relocation with actual decisions

Business progress, pass issuance, school arrangements and employment plans have their own stages. A school enquiry is not an accepted place, and a visa or pass plan is not a completed family approval.

Update the file when a child reaches an age boundary, a relative's employment or marital status changes, or the founder's category changes. MTEP permissions are not permanent-residence or nationality approvals. The useful family plan records each person's applicable basis and next evidence requirement, without promising that every relative will arrive together or receive the longest period.
