France Talent Founder Family Residence: Spouse Work Rights, Children and Separate Applications
An eligible talent holder's family can use France's accompanying-family procedure instead of the ordinary family-reunification route. Each person still needs the relevant visa or residence process. A talent-famille card permits employment and self-employment, and its validity corresponds to the remaining validity of the principal holder's talent card. Submission is not the same as approval or an immediately usable work permission.
Identify who is applying and at what age
The official family-card guidance identifies an adult married spouse, a child who entered France as a minor and has become an adult, and a child aged 16 to 18 who wishes to work. The broader accompanying-family description covers the spouse and minor children. These statements concern different stages; they should not be reduced to a promise that every child receives an identical adult card immediately.
List relationships, dates of birth, passports, current residence and intended arrival. An unmarried partner, parent or already adult child should not automatically be treated as having the same basis as a qualifying spouse or minor child. Obtain an individual assessment where the relationship or timing does not fit the published description.
Understand the spouse's actual professional rights
Service Public states that the talent-famille card allows employed and non-employed professional activity. For employment under this status, the employer does not need to obtain a separate work authorisation. The person must still hold the appropriate valid permission; an adviser receiving documents or a portal upload is not the same event.
Professional rights do not guarantee a job or remove rules for a regulated profession. A spouse planning an independent activity should assess the relevant business, tax and professional obligations. A family budget should distinguish confirmed resources from hoped-for employment after arrival.
Prepare relationship and identity evidence
The published card list includes the relevant current visa or residence document, passport or listed alternative, recent address evidence, the principal person's card, e-photo and the required commitment to the principles of the Republic. Joining spouses need the applicable marriage record; children need the relevant full birth record showing parentage.
Check spelling, dates and family relationships across documents. Translation, certification and document form depend on the applicable requirements. Do not assume a home-country household summary automatically contains everything requested, and do not alter original records to remove a discrepancy.
Keep the family's timetable separate
An applicant abroad applies through the French consular authorities in the country of residence and completes the applicable residence process after arrival. The family guidance states an online application within two months of entry for a long-stay visa holder. For a VLS-TS or existing residence document, it gives the window from four to two months before expiry.
Read each person's actual document and retain the submission, request and decision records. The founder's progress does not prove that a spouse has already completed a separate procedure. School admission, housing and employment plans should be coordinated with the real stage rather than an assumed family-wide approval date.
Check validity and costs person by person
A talent-famille card follows the remaining period on the spouse's or parent's talent card. A later-arriving family member should therefore not assume a fresh maximum period independent of the principal document. Record all actual start and expiry dates after delivery.
The current family guidance lists EUR350 in card tax and stamp duty. This is a government card charge, not the full cost of relocation; visa, translation, housing and other applicable spending remain separate. Future changes in the principal status, a child reaching adulthood or a change in family circumstances require an appropriate review. The initial family permission is not a guarantee of permanent residence or nationality.
