France ICT Family Arrangements: Spouse Work Rights, Minor Children and the Remaining Permit Period

France's employee ICT route has an accompanying-family procedure for the spouse and minor children in the relevant circumstances. It avoids the ordinary family-reunification procedure but does not eliminate each person's visa and document steps. The applicable family card permits professional activity and follows the principal worker's remaining permission period, rather than starting a new three-year family clock.

Establish the actual family relationships

List each person's passport, current residence, age, relationship and intended arrival. A household can have different nationalities and existing documents, so the principal worker's application is not a substitute for everyone's individual position.

The stated spouse-and-minor-child framework should not automatically be extended to parents, an unmarried partner or a child already adult before the relevant entry. Those situations need their own applicable basis assessed. A willingness to support a relative does not by itself create the legal relationship required by this particular procedure.

Distinguish the spouse's card from a child's position

Article L421-28 addresses the relevant spouse aged at least 18 and the card's period corresponding to the principal's remaining validity. It also addresses children who entered as minors and the specified stage after turning 18. Those conditions should not be reduced to every child immediately receiving the same adult card.

Service Public explains that minor children are generally exempt from holding a residence card until adulthood, while the spouse follows the applicable card process. That exemption does not remove all entry, passport or travel requirements. If a child will turn 18 during the assignment, plan the appropriate document stage using the actual birthday and history.

Base work plans on the actual valid document

The official public-service guidance says the applicable ICT family card permits professional activity. That is a useful basis for a spouse's planning, but an application receipt or a hoped-for approval should not automatically be presented as the same right under an issued valid document.

A regulated occupation still has its own professional requirements. Residence work rights do not replace every licence, business-registration or tax obligation. Finding a job is also different from holding permission to work, so a household budget should not assume an unconfirmed salary begins immediately after arrival.

Plan a later family arrival carefully

Service Public says the accompanying-family procedure can also apply where the family arrives after the worker or the marriage occurs after the worker's arrival. Use the actual relationship, current principal status and individual procedure at that time; this is not an indefinitely reserved place independent of the remaining permission.

A later arrival can suit genuine work or school arrangements, but the remaining card period is shorter as time passes. Review each child's age and relevant school dates before making commitments. An employer's target starting date is not automatically the right departure date for every family member.

Prepare documents and follow the correct local procedure

The official family list includes the applicable long-stay visa or valid status, identity documents, recent address evidence, the principal's residence evidence, current marriage or birth relationship records, photographs and the relevant signed commitment to the principles of the Republic. Translation and certification depend on the actual documents and receiving instructions.

The guidance describes the relevant long-stay visa through the French consular authorities in the country of residence, and the spouse's residence application through the competent local prefectural procedure. Do not copy another French talent or visitor route's platform and timing into every ICT family case.

Keep the principal's remaining period, each family document and proposed travel visible in one timetable. A change in the assignment or a later residence purpose requires the family's position to be reviewed too. School enrolment, a spouse's contract or a signed lease does not itself extend residence permission beyond the actual documents.
