Bulgaria Retirement Family Budget: Separate Applications, Housing, Insurance and Government Charges

A Bulgarian retirement family's budget should begin with each person's immigration basis, rather than a single advertised relocation price. The principal applicant needs to establish the retirement conditions. A spouse or child may need a separate family procedure, relationship evidence and personal documents. Government charges, professional services, living resources and actual spending serve different purposes.

Map the family before estimating costs

List each person's age, relationship, passport, current residence, intended arrival and purpose. Identify who has the pension right and who proposes to apply as a family member. Do not treat an adult child as a minor solely because the parent provides financial support.

The EU Immigration Portal describes family reunification for a person holding a residence permit valid for at least one year and identifies the spouse and minor children, including those of the spouse. Check the actual principal permission and family circumstances before treating that description as applicable to the whole group.

Treat family approval as its own process

The EU guidance states that family members must obtain the relevant visa and then residence permission. Its family permit description ties validity to the principal permit, with a maximum of one year. Each person's actual decision and expiry date should be recorded.

The Bulgarian Interior Ministry's family document list includes relationship records alongside accommodation, insurance, resources and relevant personal documents. A pension approval in the principal person's name does not replace a spouse's marriage evidence or a child's birth record. Special relationships or circumstances need their own assessment.

Separate fees from required resources

Government fees pay for an administrative service or permission; professional fees pay for agreed work. Neither is the same as the money that must remain available for living. Ask for a written scope identifying translation, document preparation, official charges and any separate professional involvement.

The Sofia retirement service currently lists EUR5.11 for the requested service and grant charges of EUR102.26 for up to six months or EUR255.65 for up to one year. Those are specific published administrative items, not a complete visa, residence-card production or family relocation quotation. Check the applicable category and payment notice before paying.

Build housing and education costs from the actual plan

A genuine housing arrangement must also produce the evidence required for the relevant procedure. Compare rent, deposits, utilities, lease terms and the landlord's ability to provide the appropriate records. Purchasing a property should not be assumed to be a universal retirement condition.

School plans have a separate timetable and cost structure. Identify the child's age, intended school and actual admission stage before building a budget around a presumed place. A family's immigration plan should not be reported as complete because an enquiry has been sent to a school or landlord.

Check medical cover person by person

The relevant residence lists address medical insurance valid in Bulgaria where the person is not covered under the local health-insurance framework. Review each insured person's dates and coverage rather than assuming the principal policy automatically covers the household.

Age, health and the chosen product can affect price and continuing cover. Ask the insurer about the actual terms. Immigration evidence and suitable medical protection are connected but different questions; an adviser should not promise future renewal or payment of a claim.

Leave room for timing and overseas commitments

Keep original-currency pension records, exchange assumptions and the date money becomes available. Separate confirmed income from expected transfers or asset sales. Continuing loans, insurance and family responsibilities elsewhere may remain payable after relocation.

The useful decision is whether the genuine resources can support the planned stages and each applicant's requirements. A lower advertised minimum does not make an unsupported family budget workable. Retain actual documents, quotations and approvals, and update the plan when the household or permission changes.
