Bulgaria Retirement Residence Eligibility: Pension Entitlement, Resources and Local Bank Evidence
Bulgaria's retirement residence basis requires an applicable pension entitlement and sufficient means of support. The Interior Ministry's pension-category list asks for a document from the competent authority confirming the pension right and a Bulgarian bank document showing an account for the relevant pension transfers. Savings or rental income do not automatically establish the separate pension-entitlement condition.
Start with the actual pension right
The Sofia Migration guidance refers to a right to a pension under Bulgarian law, the law of the person's country of origin or another country. Identify the pension system, competent authority, entitlement decision and actual payment arrangement before relying on the route.
A planned retirement, a private investment account and a legally established pension right are different facts. Do not import another country's advertised age threshold or assume that a large balance settles the question. Where the scheme or payment form is unusual, obtain an assessment of the actual documents rather than changing their description.
Separate the entitlement from financial support
The residence list also requires stable, regular, predictable and sufficient resources without recourse to social assistance, assessed against the relevant Bulgarian minimum standard for the period of stay. That requirement sits alongside the pension evidence.
Prepare records of amounts, ownership, periods and availability. Keep a property valuation, actual rental receipts and cleared funds separate. A regulatory minimum is also different from a household's realistic spending needs; housing, insurance and continuing commitments elsewhere need their own budget.
Arrange the Bulgarian bank evidence
The category-specific list calls for a bank in Bulgaria to confirm an available account into which the relevant pension transfers will be received. An overseas bank statement can explain resources but does not itself replace that local-bank item.
Check the account holder, receiving details and the pension payer's actual transfer arrangements. Opening an account remains a bank process with its own checks. A consultant's appointment confirmation or a service payment should not be described as an account already opened or a document already accepted by immigration authorities.
Distinguish the D visa from residence permission
The Foreign Ministry's long-stay visa guidance explains the D visa as part of the settlement process and requires a personal interview. Professional help preparing a file does not remove that requirement. The actual mission and applicable submission arrangements should be confirmed for the applicant's residence situation.
A visa decision and the later residence decision are separate. After arrival, the applicant must address the procedure attached to the actual document and chosen basis. Do not equate permission to travel with all residence steps completed.
Check housing, insurance and personal records
The pension residence list includes secured accommodation, the relevant medical insurance where the person is not covered under the local health-insurance framework, identity and current-status materials, the applicable state-fee evidence and an initial criminal-record document.
A lease or other accepted accommodation evidence should reflect a genuine arrangement. Insurance should cover the appropriate territory and period; a familiar product name is not proof that it fits every stage. Confirm translation and legalisation requirements with the actual receiving authority, preserving the original meaning of pension and financial records.
Assess each family member separately
An eligible principal applicant does not give every relative an already approved permission. A spouse or child may need the applicable family procedure, relationship evidence and separate documents. Adult relatives should not be treated as minor children merely because they are financially dependent.
Begin with a short factual summary of the pension, resources, intended accommodation, passport and family plan. It should reveal whether evidence is missing or the substantive basis has not yet been established. Neither a higher advisory fee nor more polished wording can substitute for the actual legal and financial facts.
