Bulgaria Retirement D Visa Documents: Pension Records, Accommodation, Insurance and Personal Interview

For a Bulgarian retirement D visa, confirm the actual receiving diplomatic or consular mission before paying for translations or document services. Pension entitlement, Bulgarian bank evidence, accommodation, insurance and personal records need to support the real plan. The Foreign Ministry's D-visa guidance requires a personal interview; document assistance is not a replacement for attending it.

Establish where and on what basis to apply

The official long-stay visa document describes application through the diplomatic or consular mission at the applicant's permanent place of residence, or the accredited mission. It addresses an exceptional application from another country where the person is lawfully staying, subject to the stated explanation and return conditions.

Do not assume every mission will accept the file simply because the applicant is visiting that country. Identify the actual passport, residence position and proposed retirement basis, then confirm the applicable arrangements with the receiving mission.

Obtain pension documents before translating them

The retirement residence category requires evidence from the competent authority that a pension right has been acquired. A bank balance answers a different question. Collect the actual decision or official pension document and explain the payment system, period and present status accurately.

If the entitlement has been granted but payments have not started, say so. If a payment is a lump sum rather than a recurring pension, retain its real description. Translation cannot turn a savings withdrawal into a different legal entitlement.

Coordinate the local bank and housing records

The pension category also specifies a Bulgarian bank document confirming an account for the pension transfers. Check the name, account availability and payer arrangements. Retain original overseas records where they help explain resources, without claiming they replace the Bulgarian bank document.

Accommodation should match the intended living arrangement and accepted evidence. Before committing to a lease, confirm which landlord and address documents are needed. A hotel reservation, mailing address and long-term home should not be treated as interchangeable without an official basis.

Check insurance at the correct stage

The official D guidance addresses obligatory health insurance and sufficient support for the residence period. The Interior Ministry's residence list separately addresses medical insurance valid in Bulgaria where the applicant is not covered by the relevant local health-insurance law.

Read the policy holder, dates, territorial cover and exclusions. Ask the insurer about actual coverage and the receiving authority about the evidence required. A visa policy should not be assumed to cover every subsequent residence period or every accompanying family member.

Preserve personal records and document meaning

The D guidance lists the application form, travel document, relevant copies, photograph and originals supporting the legal basis, resources and accommodation. Initial residence documentation also includes the applicable criminal-record certificate. Use the current checklist for the person's actual procedure and issuing jurisdiction.

The form of translation, legalisation and copies should be checked with the receiving mission. A local consulate's named translators or copy requirements are not automatically the rule for every applicant worldwide. Keep names, dates and pension terminology consistent with the originals.

Prepare for personal attendance and later steps

The official D document states that the personal-interview requirement has no exception. The applicant should understand the genuine retirement, housing and financial facts submitted. An adviser can organise evidence and clarify inconsistencies, but should not supply an invented personal story.

Retain the submitted version, requests and formal decision. The D visa does not mean the later residence application has already been approved. The Sofia pension guidance lists filing 14 days before the permitted stay or D visa expires, with its own review timetable and possible extension. Plan the next stage using the actual document and authority; a processing target is not a guaranteed completion date.
