Brazil Digital Nomad Renewal: Current Work, Financial Evidence, CRNM and Criminal Records

Brazil's digital nomad framework provides an initial period of up to one year and a renewal for an equal period under its requirements. Renewal is not automatic. A current bank balance does not by itself establish that the qualifying overseas work still exists, and the first application's documents should not be assumed to answer every later requirement.

Reassess the current work relationship

Start with the employer or qualifying relationship that now exists. If the original contract has ended, the applicant has changed employer or the working arrangement has materially changed, document the true dates and new position. Do not continue using a confirmation that describes work the person no longer performs.

Article 6 refers back to the digital nomad evidence in Article 4, which in turn uses Article 5. That includes the remote-working declaration, contract or other qualifying overseas relationship evidence, and the financial direction. The continued possession of a laptop, an old approval or a portfolio does not replace that combined assessment.

Keep financial evidence current and separate

The financial directions are monthly support from a foreign paying source of at least USD1,500 or available bank funds of at least USD18,000. Select the direction supported by genuine current records. Retain the original amounts and periods and explain a change in payer or account holder where relevant.

Funds are not a payment to obtain another year. A professional service fee, government charge or insurance premium has a different purpose. Do not treat payment for a renewal service as extending the permission or as evidence that the government has accepted the application.

Use the specified renewal documents

Article 6 lists the relevant representation authority where applicable, the criminal-record declaration and digital nomad proof referred to in Article 4, a copy of the CRNM, and criminal-record certificates for the places where the applicant resided during the temporary residence. This is a renewal-specific list rather than a simple instruction to resubmit the original visa bundle.

Prepare a truthful residence history for the relevant temporary-residence period. The certificates required for renewal should not be confused with the initial in-country application's previous-five-years residence evidence or the overseas visa's origin-country provision. Identify the appropriate documents for the procedure instead of reusing one certificate because it was accepted at an earlier stage.

Check foreign documents and identity consistency

If a relevant certificate or other public document is issued abroad, review its applicable legalisation and Portuguese sworn-translation requirements. The Federal Police guidance explains that apostille and other legalisation arrangements depend on the document and applicable agreements. Acceptance of English by a consulate at first application is not a blanket translation exemption for every later step.

Use the current passport, registration card and genuine supporting records to explain any name or identity change. Retain the original and complete certification pages. Avoid replacing a previous spelling in an old document or removing an inconvenient date to create an artificial match.

Plan dates using actual permission and instructions

Track the existing authorisation and card, the current procedure and the official submission or response records. Do not infer that making an appointment, paying a fee or sending documents to a representative creates an extension. Any travel while the case is being handled requires the person's actual documents and return conditions to be reviewed separately.

The rule's provision for an equal renewal period should not be expanded into a guarantee of perpetual annual renewals. Nor should a claim that renewal is allowed only once be invented from wording that does not establish that limit. Assess the current provision and circumstances at the relevant application date.

Changes in employment, resources or residence need to be disclosed accurately. Article 7 addresses false information and concealment of material facts, with cancellation and other consequences under the applicable law. A renewal file should therefore describe the person's present position clearly, with records that can be traced to their actual source, rather than preserving the appearance of the first application at the expense of the facts.
