Belgium Highly Qualified Worker Salary in 2026: Flanders, Brussels and Wallonia Use Different Bases
Belgium does not have one highly qualified worker salary figure that can be applied to every region and employment arrangement. Flanders uses its stated annual remuneration basis and specific local-hire or posting rules; Brussels focuses on monthly basic pay; Wallonia publishes annual thresholds by year. Establish the competent region and category before comparing an offer.
Break down the actual remuneration
Ask the employer to distinguish fixed gross pay, payment frequency, guaranteed components, variable bonuses, benefits and expense reimbursements. A recruitment package's maximum possible value is not automatically the remuneration counted for a work-admission threshold.
Keep the employment or posting structure visible. An overseas contract with assignment allowances can be assessed differently from a Belgian contract with holiday pay and a thirteenth month. Gross salary, take-home pay and a household's living budget are also different calculations; none should silently replace the others.
Read the Flemish figures with their current qualification
The current Flemish page retains EUR48,912 as the general annual basis for the stated local highly qualified category and posted workers. Its text says the 2025 figure was still being used for applications submitted in 2026, pending new Statbel wage statistics. Recheck that official basis at the relevant application stage rather than inventing an indexation increase.
For the specified local employees under 30, qualified nurses or teachers in recognised institutions, the page describes an 80 percent direction of EUR39,129.60. Its posting instructions say the corresponding reduction does not apply to posted workers under 30 or posted nurses. Eligibility for a lower figure is a separate check, not a countrywide age discount.
Do not use one annual-to-monthly divisor everywhere
For the described Belgian-contract arrangement with double holiday pay and a thirteenth month, the Flemish page uses 13.92 to convert the annual figure into the monthly amount. The posting illustration uses 12 because that Belgian pay structure is not applicable in the same way.
Those examples explain particular remuneration structures. They do not authorise dividing every offer by whichever number produces the preferred answer. Identify which components are guaranteed and recognised, including the distinction between an assignment allowance and reimbursement of actual travel, lodging or food costs.
Brussels counts the relevant monthly basic salary
The current Brussels table lists EUR3,703.44 gross per month for highly qualified staff from 1 January 2026. Its instructions focus on monthly basic remuneration corresponding to the specified DMFA code. For posted workers, the stated gross monthly salary can include the qualifying monthly assignment supplement, while other benefits are excluded under its instructions.
A high annual package therefore does not necessarily establish the required monthly base. Do not add benefits accepted under another region's guidance or substitute the Brussels Blue Card, manager or ICT figure for the highly qualified staff category. Keep the actual contract and payroll descriptions aligned.
Keep Wallonia's 2026 and 2027 tables separate
Wallonia lists EUR53,220 gross annually for highly qualified workers in 2026 and EUR42,576 for the stated under-30 junior category. The same official page separately publishes 2027 figures of EUR54,709 and EUR43,767. Those future figures should not be presented as the 2026 requirement.
The page describes recognised gross components known with certainty in advance and checking actual payment at renewal. Confirm the applicable year and category for the proposed work, including a period crossing calendar years. The general wage and employment rules also remain relevant; satisfying an immigration table does not displace every labour-law obligation.
Retain the source and date used for the assessment, and review changes before filing or renewal. None of these figures is a government fee, a guarantee of approval or an estimate of the employee's net spending power. A clear comparison identifies the actual offer and its accepted components alongside the correct regional rule.
