Subclass 191 Hong Kong stream: How to document remote and hybrid work locations

For the subclass 191 Hong Kong stream, check where you usually lived and where you actually worked or studied as separate questions. Home Affairs says work or study in the three years immediately before applying must have been in designated regional Australia. If your employer’s registered office is in a city and you work from a regional home, document where you performed the work and when that arrangement applied.

Build a work-location timeline

For each period, note the start and end dates, work address and postcode, and whether you worked from home, at an office or at a client site. If you worked at several locations, include the dates at each one. Check each address against the official designated regional postcode list. Keep the employer’s registered address in a separate column so it can be compared with the actual work location.

For example, a contract might name a city head office, while a later remote-work agreement permits regular work from a regional home. Record the date that agreement began and any days spent working at headquarters. The public Home Affairs guidance does not give a general allowance for a fixed number of non-regional office days. Hybrid arrangements should be assessed on their particular facts.

Match the records to the dates

Home Affairs lists employment contracts, references and payslips as examples of evidence. Where available, ask the employer to confirm the start date and terms of the remote arrangement, the usual place of work and any in-person attendance requirements. Existing rosters, time records or site notices can help show when work was performed at a particular location. If you studied during the same period, record campus locations, attendance arrangements and dates separately.

Before lodging, review any period where the records show conflicting addresses or leave a gap. If you need help reviewing your visa pathway, have your proposed lodgement date and work-location timeline ready when contacting Premiervisa Group.
