Australia’s 191 Hong Kong stream: When must you first enter after an offshore grant?

If your subclass 191 Hong Kong stream visa was granted while you were outside Australia, Home Affairs requires you to enter before the date specified in your grant notice. The five-year travel facility runs from the visa grant date. For the first trip, work from the entry date in the individual notice.

Check each grant notice before booking

Save the notices for every traveller. Write down the grant date and the first-entry date shown for each person, then confirm the passport details. Compare the dates against the scheduled arrival in Australia in local time. A flight that departs before the deadline can land on a later date.

If your family plans to move after the school term ends, compare that schedule with each notice before making commitments. Where a planned arrival conflicts with the date, check the individual instructions with Home Affairs before booking. The travel facility expiry date cannot be used to work out the first-entry date.

Check the travel facility for future return trips

Subclass 191 is a permanent visa. For a later trip overseas, compare your expected return date with the travel facility shown in your grant and in VEVO. If it will have expired before you return, review the Resident Return Visa requirements. If you renewed your passport, confirm that the new document is linked to your visa record.

Keep a record of the day you entered

For citizenship purposes, Home Affairs treats permanent residence for an offshore grant holder as starting on the day they enter Australia on the visa. Keep the grant notice and records of the actual arrival. Check the full citizenship residence requirements when you begin planning an application.

If you would like help reviewing the dates, contact 卓越移民 Premiervisa Group with the individual grant notices, passport details and intended arrival dates.
