Antigua and Barbuda Citizenship Cost: A Family Budget

8 min read

Antigua and Barbuda citizenship costs depend on the investment route and the people included in the application. For the National Development Fund route, the official contribution is USD 230,000, but that is not a complete application price. Government processing, due diligence, passport issuance and professional expenses must be budgeted separately. Using the official published schedule, an illustrative single applicant has USD 248,800 in the listed contribution, processing, due diligence and passport components, before interview and other charges that need confirmation.

This guide uses US dollars and the Antigua and Barbuda Citizenship by Investment Unit's published fee schedule, checked on 31 October 2026. The examples below are calculations from specified components, not company quotations or eligibility decisions. An unlisted charge is not assumed to be zero.

What is included in an Antigua citizenship budget?

Start by separating the financial commitment that qualifies for the route from the cost of preparing and assessing an application. A contribution to a government fund, a property purchase and a business investment have different purposes. They should not be combined into one headline figure without explaining what the applicant receives and what capital remains exposed to investment risk.

For a contribution application, a practical budget has five sections: the qualifying contribution; government processing; background checks; passport or other document charges; and professional or third-party services. Interview charges, bank transfer costs and any case-specific additional checks need their own entries. Keeping those sections separate makes it possible to compare two proposals without confusing a service provider's charge with an official fee.

Ask each provider to identify the fee recipient, currency, payment trigger and refund terms. A proposal that includes an unusually broad description such as administration should explain which tasks that line covers. If a government charge is paid through an intermediary, keep the underlying official reference and payment evidence with the quotation.

Illustrative NDF budgets for different families

The following calculations use the contribution, processing, due diligence and passport entries published by the CIU. Both adults are assumed to qualify. The younger-child example assumes two children aged eight and ten; the teenage example assumes children aged thirteen and fifteen. No additional benefactor, enhanced checks or other case-specific charge is included.

These subtotals exclude interview charges, professional services, translation, certification, bank costs, travel and any additional assessment. Obtain the applicable amounts in writing. The table illustrates how family composition changes an otherwise similar proposal; it does not say that every family with the same headcount qualifies or will pay the same final bill.

Age assumptions matter. A quotation for two young children cannot be treated as a quotation for two teenagers. A family also needs to disclose whether another person is providing the funds, since a benefactor can introduce a separate assessment and cost. Record the age and relationship of each proposed applicant beside the fee calculation.

Compare other investment routes on the same basis

The official schedule also covers property, business and University of the West Indies options. A lower processing charge or a recoverable asset does not automatically make an option cheaper. Compare the complete financial commitment, the charges attached to it and the suitability of the route for the actual family.

In particular, a property price is an asset purchase rather than a contribution. The property must satisfy the programme's requirements, and the contract may introduce valuation, legal, transaction, maintenance or management expenses. Expected rental income and an eventual sale price belong in an investment assessment, not in a guaranteed reduction of the citizenship application cost.

The CIU's official programme website links to the NDF, real estate, business and UWI routes, as well as approved projects and licensed channels. Check the exact option and current requirements before treating a price advertised for one route as available under another. Where a published contribution includes a particular processing component, avoid adding the same item twice.

Make family eligibility a separate workstream

Prepare a person-by-person schedule before requesting a final quotation. It should identify the main applicant, spouse and each proposed dependant, together with their date of birth, relationship and the evidence needed for inclusion. Family eligibility is a legal question; a fee schedule only explains what may be payable once the relevant category applies.

An adult child's position may require a different review from a minor child's position. A parent's inclusion may require additional personal and dependency information. Do not replace those factual questions with a simple family-of-four label. Ask the appointed professional which conditions must be satisfied and when they will be assessed.

Keep the family schedule current during preparation. A birthday, marriage, birth or other material change may affect documents or costs. If the family intends to add someone later, obtain a separate explanation of that procedure rather than assuming the original application price covers all future additions.

Budget for preparation and professional services

Professional fees should identify the contracted services and the responsible parties. An initial suitability review, document coordination, legal work on a property, translation and authorised submission may be performed by different people. A useful engagement explains who performs each task and who communicates with the authority.

Third-party expenses can include certified copies, translations, legalisation where applicable, police records, medical documentation, courier services and bank transfers. Their amounts depend on where documents are issued and what the application requires. Request an allowance with stated assumptions rather than accepting a fixed miscellaneous figure that nobody can explain.

PremierVisa's service scope and professional charges should be confirmed in a written proposal for the actual case. This article does not insert an assumed company fee into the official calculations. That separation allows a family to inspect the government components while still obtaining a complete commercial quotation before making a commitment.

Understand payment timing and refund exposure

A family needs a cash-flow schedule as well as a total. List what is due at engagement, document preparation, submission, assessment and any later approval stage. Check whether a payment is an official charge, a contribution, a professional retainer or an investment instalment. Those labels have different contractual consequences.

The official schedule explains that parts of the government processing charge and due diligence are payable at submission and identifies non-refundable elements. Read the current schedule with the written engagement. Ask what happens if the family withdraws, receives an adverse decision or cannot provide a requested document.

Receiving a request for another document or paying an assessment fee is not evidence that approval has been granted. Preserve the authority's actual communications and keep payment milestones tied to the correct event. Confirm changed payment instructions through the agreed channel before transferring funds.

Allow for currency and household liquidity

The programme's published amounts are in US dollars. A household funding the application from Hong Kong dollars, Taiwan dollars or another currency should record the conversion assumption separately from the official charge. The exchange rate used in a preliminary budget may differ from the rate available when a transfer is made.

Bank charges also need clear allocation. Identify whether the sender, intermediary banks or recipient can deduct charges, and establish the amount that must actually arrive. Keep the payment reference and evidence of the source account. A payment shortfall should not be concealed inside a rounded estimate.

Consider the family's remaining liquidity after each stage. An investment asset may not be readily saleable, while a contribution does not leave an asset available for later household expenses. Maintain a separate reserve for living costs and unexpected document or travel requirements rather than counting committed funds twice.

Questions to ask before accepting a quotation

Is USD 230,000 the complete price?

No. It is the NDF contribution shown in the current published schedule, not a statement of the whole application's cost. The examples above add specified official components and still exclude other charges that must be confirmed for the actual case.

Can a family-of-four price cover any four relatives?

No. Each person must satisfy the applicable family category and evidence requirements. Age and dependency can matter. Name the proposed members, obtain the eligibility assessment and then calculate the fees associated with those people.

Why can two families of four have different totals?

The ages and categories of the people included can change due diligence and other expenses. Document preparation can also differ. Compare proposals using the same family schedule, investment route and calculation date, with the same list of exclusions.

Does a property investment guarantee that capital will be recovered?

No. A property has its own market, contract, ownership and exit risks. Any expected income or recovery of capital should be supported by a separate investment assessment. It should not be described as a guaranteed reduction of immigration costs.

Should interview and professional charges be treated as zero if a table omits them?

No. An omitted charge is an unresolved item. Request its amount, recipient and payment timing. The example subtotals in this article are deliberately labelled so that they cannot be mistaken for a complete all-inclusive offer.

Can paying the required amount secure approval?

No. Financial capacity is one part of the case. Eligibility, background checks, evidence and the authority's decision remain separate requirements. A provider should explain the process and its own role without promising the government's outcome.

Prepare a quotation brief that can be checked

For a useful initial comparison, provide current nationality and residence, the proposed investment route and a basic family schedule. State whether funds come from the applicant, a business distribution, an asset sale or another source. Identify any relevant immigration history that the appointed professional needs to assess.

Ask for an itemised proposal showing the official calculation, professional scope, third-party allowances, exclusions and payment stages. Check it against the linked CIU schedule and current programme requirements. Use secure arrangements for detailed identity and financial records, rather than sending a complete evidence file through an initial public enquiry.

Audit the arithmetic before comparing a package

Take the younger-child illustration above. The USD 264,700 subtotal contains a USD 230,000 contribution, USD 20,000 processing, USD 13,500 due diligence for the two adults and USD 1,200 for four passports. The children's due diligence entry is zero in this specific age example under the published schedule; other omitted services are not zero.

Now replace those children with teenagers aged thirteen and fifteen. The contribution and assumed processing components remain the same in this illustration, but the schedule adds USD 2,000 of due diligence for each child. That explains the USD 4,000 difference between the two displayed subtotals without inventing an unexplained family surcharge.

This exercise also reveals the limits of the calculation. It has not priced an interview, assessed a benefactor, arranged travel or obtained a professional quotation. Those matters remain visible in the outstanding-items list instead of being hidden behind an all-inclusive label.

Keep a change log with the quotation

When a new proposal arrives, record what changed: the official schedule, a family member's circumstances, the selected route or the contracted services. A higher revised figure should be explained by its changed assumptions rather than accepted as an unexplained replacement.

Keep the earlier quotation and source date for reference, but mark clearly which version is current. Ask the provider to confirm the validity period and the point at which charges are fixed or recalculated. This is especially useful where document preparation and payment take place over several months.

The purpose is a decision file the household can inspect. It should show both the verified official components and the remaining commercial commitments before funds are transferred.

Discuss your plan with the Hong Kong team

For an initial English-language review, tell PremierVisa Group your current nationality and residence, the people you hope to include and the route being considered. Identify the broad funding source and any question about eligibility or an existing quotation. This helps define the next review without assuming that a general article determines your case.

Request an initial assessment or call +852 3620 2559. The written proposal should identify the responsible professionals, service scope, fees and next steps. Detailed identity and financial records can follow through an agreed secure channel.
