190 State Nomination Invitation or Visa Invitation? Check Your Next Step Before Applying
A state invitation to apply for nomination is not the same as a Department of Home Affairs invitation to apply for a subclass 190 visa. Nomination approval is another step, and neither invitation is a visa grant. Before paying a charge or uploading documents, identify who issued the message, what application it permits and its actual deadline.
Start with the sender and the action requested
Read the complete message and any attached notice. Record the issuing government, your name, EOI reference, visa subclass, required action, submission channel and deadline. A subject line saying “invitation” does not tell you which stage you have reached.
An invitation from a state may ask you to submit a nomination application with evidence. A Home Affairs invitation concerns the visa application itself. A payment receipt or submission acknowledgement proves a transaction or lodgement; it does not establish that nomination or the visa has been approved.
EOI, state selection and nomination are separate
The Expression of Interest is submitted through SkillSelect. Home Affairs describes it as the step before an invitation, and allows changes before a visa invitation when circumstances change. The indicative points score is based on the information entered. Meeting the minimum points threshold does not guarantee selection.
States have their own selection arrangements. Some use a separate Registration of Interest, while others select from EOIs through their own process. Do not copy another state's registration steps or assume submitting an EOI completes every nomination requirement.
Where a state invites a nomination application, follow that state's instructions and support the relevant claims. Nomination approval means the state has decided to nominate you. Victoria expressly explains that nomination is not a visa application and does not guarantee that Home Affairs will grant a visa.
Keep the nomination deadline separate from the visa deadline
NSW provides a useful example of the difference. Its current subclass 190 guidance gives an invitation to apply for NSW nomination a 14-day validity period, without an extension. That is the NSW nomination stage. It is not a rule giving every state's nomination applicants the same deadline.
Home Affairs separately states that a person invited to apply for a skilled visa has 60 days from the visa invitation date to complete and submit the online visa application. Do not use that 60-day period to postpone responding to a state invitation with a shorter deadline. Conversely, receiving a state message does not itself establish that the federal visa invitation has arrived.
Maintain separate entries for each notice. Copy the precise deadline and any stated time zone from the notice; where something is unclear, resolve it with the issuing authority before the deadline rather than relying on a guessed calendar calculation.
What to check before the visa application
Compare the actual invitation with the EOI details and supporting records. Check the nominated occupation, points claims, applicant details and relevant evidence. Do not treat a state's nomination decision as a substitute for Home Affairs' assessment of the visa requirements.
Use the application channel specified by Home Affairs. Its EOI guidance directs applicants to submit the visa application and upload evidence through ImmiAccount. Retain the submitted application, attachment index, receipt and reference number. If documents or circumstances differ from earlier records, keep a factual explanation and check the correct procedure for the stage you have reached.
Make a stage record that someone else can check
Keep one row for each event: EOI submission, any state selection notice, nomination application, nomination decision, Home Affairs visa invitation, visa lodgement and final visa decision. Some state processes differ, so include only the events that apply to your application.
For every row, save the original notice, issuing authority, date, reference number, next action and completion evidence. Agree who monitors the relevant accounts and emails. A consultant's summary saying “successful” should be supported by the actual decision for the specific stage.
For an initial discussion with 卓越移民 Premiervisa Group, provide a short background summary and describe which notice you have received. Full identity documents and unredacted account information are not needed simply to explain the question. Keep relocation plans separate from assumptions about invitation or approval; the final visa decision must be confirmed from Home Affairs' formal notification.
