Australia Visitor Visa 600: How to Correct a Mistake or Report a Change
If you find an error after lodging an Australian Visitor visa (subclass 600) application, tell the Department of Home Affairs as soon as possible. First decide whether the answer was wrong when you lodged the application or whether your circumstances changed later. Home Affairs provides separate ImmiAccount options for these situations.
An answer was wrong when you lodged
For an incorrect or incomplete answer, log in to ImmiAccount, expand the application, select “Update details”, then choose “Notification of incorrect answer(s)”. Select “Add”, complete the fields and confirm. Explain which answer was wrong and provide the correct information. Attach supporting evidence where relevant. Home Affairs advises applicants to report mistakes as soon as possible.
Your circumstances changed after lodgement
If the original answer was correct but your situation changed before Home Affairs finalised the application, use “Notification of changes in circumstances”. Examples listed by the Department include a child’s birth, marriage or de facto relationship, divorce or separation, a name change or a death in the family. Complete the change notice and attach official evidence that explains the change.
Form 1023 and Form 1022 serve different purposes
Form 1023, “Notification of incorrect answer(s)”, is for information that was incorrect when provided. Form 1022, “Notification of changes in circumstances”, is for a later change that makes an earlier answer no longer correct. Do not substitute one for the other. For an online subclass 600 application, the current after-lodgement guide directs applicants to the matching Update details option in ImmiAccount.
If you lodged a paper application
Home Affairs recommends checking whether a paper application can be imported into ImmiAccount so you can use the online update process. If you cannot use ImmiAccount for your visa application, follow the current paper-application instructions, complete the relevant form and send it to the office where you lodged the application using that office’s accepted method. Check the current receiving instructions before sending documents.
Keep a record and check messages
Save a copy of the notice, attachments and ImmiAccount confirmation. Continue checking messages and outstanding requests in your account. Notifying the Department does not guarantee a visa grant or mean the application has already been corrected; respond to any further request by its stated deadline. These update steps apply while the application is still being processed.
Report a change in circumstances before the visa is finalised. Form 1023 states that the obligation to notify the Department about incorrect information remains even if a visa is later granted. A notification does not guarantee a grant or mean the record has already been corrected; respond to any further request by its stated deadline.
